As California accelerates the adoption of electric vehicle infrastructure, ensuring accessibility at Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) has become essential. This webinar provides a comprehensive overview of how ADA standards, the California Building Code, and state legislation shape the design, installation, and signage requirements for accessible EV charging spaces.
Join us for a practical, detailed session designed for parking operators, transportation planners, mobility professionals, and public agencies responsible for implementing compliant EV charging facilities. Attendees will learn how to correctly apply federal and state rules, understand required EVCS-to-accessible-space ratios, integrate van-accessible standards, and navigate the implications of AB 1100 when converting existing parking into EV charging stations.
All attendees will receive reference materials covered during the training.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand the ADA and California accessibility requirements that apply to EV charging stations, including required ratios and technical specifications for accessible and van-accessible spaces.
Identify the signage, dimensional, and path-of-travel requirements necessary to ensure EVCS installations are compliant and easily usable by individuals with disabilities.
Apply California specific rules, including AB 1100, to determine how parking conversions, access rules, and designation requirements affect EVCS planning and operations.
Evan Johnson, Electrification Program Manager for the City of Pasadena’s Water & Power Department.
Evan has worked for the City of Pasadena for 17 years and is in his 5th year with Pasadena Water and Power as the Electrification Program Manager. He specializes in installing electric vehicle charging installations which includes a mix of public, commercial, and multi-family housing locations. Evan's love for both nature and cars is a great fit for his position while building and managing an EV charging network to power the next generation of technologically advanced vehicles. Evan enjoys tackling complex problems around the adoption of electric vehicles that will have a significant impact on reducing GHG emissions in California as well as creating new ways for PWP to modernize as electrification of vehicles and buildings are incorporated into the grid.
Evan will be speaking at the EV Charging Summit & Expo (Mar 18–19, 2026) in sessions like “Public Transit and Municipal Fleets Shop Talks” and Peers Q&A (“EV Charging Answers Bar”).
