Leveraging Comprehensive Data for Smarter Parking Management

Leveraging Comprehensive Data for Smarter Parking Management

Tuesday, April 15, 2025 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

In this presentation, Eliot Mueting will discuss the projects currently underway in Redwood City, San Diego, and Walnut Creek to build a more comprehensive and data-informed approach to parking and curbside management. Each of these projects highlight cities’ desire to streamline analysis by consolidating data from various parking technology vendors into a unified tool, ultimately delivering a clearer picture of parking in the congested areas from both a micro and mesoscopic perspective.

The presentation will highlight data's pivotal role in addressing increasing curbside demand while reducing congestion and promoting sustainability. Eliot will discuss the technical approaches taken to manage data and scale and transform it into insight. By amalgamating data from sources like parking meters, kiosks, mobile apps, sensors, and cameras, cities can make informed decisions about curb space allocation and establish a process for enabling dynamic pricing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. In this session, participants will be able to understand how data and insights can offer transformative potential for parking management.
  2. Participants will also learn best practices for leveraging data standards to more effectively break down data siloes between parking technologies.
  3. Finally, cities will be able to learn from the experiences of 3 California cities and receive specific anecdotes from their staff.

Eliot began his career in 2012 as a Service Planning & Development at Sound Transit. Eliot then moved on to BDS PLANNING & URBAN DESIGN INC in 2013, where he served as an Associate. In 2016, he became the Director of Urban Development at The U District Partnership. In 2017, he joined Expedia Group as a Growth Project Manager.
